Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week – Free Radiology Report for New Referring Doctors

April 11, 2023

Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week (April 16-22) is an important reminder to focus on prevention and detection of head and neck cancers. As an imaging center specializing in maxillofacial CBCT imaging, Reveal Diagnostics is proud to support this awareness campaign by offering a free radiology report to new referring doctors. Our goal is to provide better and faster diagnosis of head and neck cancers, so that doctors can provide their patients with the best possible care.

What is Oral, Head and Neck Cancer?

Oral, head and neck cancer is a group of cancers that includes cancers of the in mouth, throat, voice box, sinuses, nasal cavity or salivary glands. It is the sixth most common cancer worldwide and can be caused by smoking, alcohol use, and exposure to HPV. It is estimated that 650,000 people will be affected this year by head and neck cancer worldwide, with 330,000 deaths. In the United States, 65,000 new diagnoses will be made this year.

Early detection of oral, head and neck cancer is essential for successful treatment. Symptoms may include a sore throat that doesn’t go away, a lump or sore in the mouth or throat area that does not heal, difficulty swallowing, ear pain, numbness in the face, and a change in the voice.

The Importance of Early Detection

Traditional radiographs and CT scans can provide valuable information regarding a patient’s diagnosis but do not provide detailed 3D imaging of the entire head and neck region.

That’s where CBCT imaging comes in. CBCT imaging or Cone Beam Computed Tomography provides highly detailed 3D images of the entire head and neck region, which helps doctors make more accurate diagnoses and develop effective treatment plans.  Early detection is essential when it comes to treating oral, head, and neck cancers as the survival rate is much higher when the cancer is caught early.

CBCT imaging can help doctors identify abnormalities or changes in the oral cavity before they become serious issues. This means that patients can receive early diagnosis and treatment if necessary.

Why You Should Refer Your Patients to Reveal Diagnostics

Reveal Diagnostics is the first accredited CBCT imaging center in California and the only one where patients over 65 are covered by Medicare. This allows for increased access to advanced technology, which can lead to better outcomes for patients.

We've been serving the medical community in the Bay Area for over 12 years and are proud to offer a complete range of maxillofacial imaging services.

What to Expect When Your Patients Come to Reveal Diagnostics

A CBCT exam is a safe and painless imaging technique used to capture high-resolution images of the maxillofacial region. The exam is performed using a special cone beam CT scanner that emits a low dose of radiation and takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

The CBCT technique is superior to traditional imaging methods because it provides a more detailed 3D view of the region without the use of multiple x-ray images. Our technicians will be on hand throughout the procedure to answer any questions and make sure your patients feel at ease.
